Instant Pot = Game Changer. It does all the things. It is ahhh-mazing. From pressure cooking, to slow cooking, to rice making and more.
I had heard all the hullaballoo and knew I needed this cooking gadget in my life, so I asked for an Instant Pot for Christmas. One year later, and I have used it no less than two times per week. Sometimes twice in the SAME day! (Like on meal prep Sundays!) One year later and I’m still in love!
Top 5 Reasons I Love The Instant Pot
- Fast Cooking Time – The cooking time is literally cut in half (or less).
- All the Flavor! – Food maintains alllll the flavor and delicious juices.
- No Babysitting! – You can set it and walk away. No babysitting required. (no standing over a stove stirring and stirring and stirring)

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is it intimidating to pull out of the box for the first time?
A. Yes. Pull her out anyway.
Q. My grandma’s pressure cooker was scary. I’m afraid it’s going to blow up. Will it explode?
A. Don’t fret. You ain’t seen nothing like this. There are lots of safety doo-dads (← technical term).
Q. Do I need to read the entire manual?
A. Yes. Just kidding. No. (*nerd alert*– I did. Like I read ALL manuals. How else does one harness the power?)
Q. There are so many buttons. Which one will I use the most?
A. For most of what I make, I use manual. No need to make things complicated.
Q. What else is inside?
A. It kinda depends on your model. They make several sizes; from mini 3-quart, to 6-quart (which is what I have) to 8-quart (which are amazing for big families).
O-Ring (which goes inside the lid)
Metal Rack (for adding layers, aka pot-in-pot cooking/two dishes at once)
Rice Cup (I mistakenly thought this was a measuring cup early on, but I never use it.)
Q. How does it “come to pressure” and how long does it take?
A. No matter what you’re cooking, you have to add no less than ½ cup of water or broth. Depending on whether your Instant Pot is already hot or not, it can take up to 10 minutes.
Q. How long does it take for food to cook in it?
A. Listen. If there is one part of the User’s Manual that is hands down THE most helpful piece, it’s in the Recipe Book included. Somewhere in the middle is this awesome CHART. It lists every single meat, fish, vegetable, grain out there and gives you the recommended cook time for fresh and frozen.
Q. How often will I really use it? I already have a crockpot.
A. Well, with this, you can cook anything under pressure quickly. It switches over to keep warm when done. You can also use it as a slow cooker. Either way, you’ll love it as much as you use it. It’s changed my life when it comes to meal prepping – I always make more than we can eat so that we have leftovers. Or, if I’m feeling ambitious, I will use the dish in one or more additional dishes during the week. (We’ll get into more about how you can cook a roast and then use leftovers to make beef stroganoff and vegetable soup for the rest of the week!) The point… You make that Instant Pot work for YOU!
Q. What do you make the most in it?
A. Chicken. Chicken. And more chicken. It’s a great first food to try in your new Instant Pot and the sky is the limit for flavor (lemon pepper, southwest, and barbecue just to name a few). Prepare to be amazed the first time you put your fork into that pot and it takes ZERO effort to shred that chicken. Here’s a post I’ve written for Easy Shredded Chicken.
Q. What are some of your favorite dishes?
A. Here are some of my staples: Chicken, Roast, Potatoes (sweet potatoes, red potatoes), Rice (brown & jasmine most often), Soups (potato, zuppa toscano, vegetable), Pasta (italian penne, mac & cheese), Refried Beans
Q. Where do you get your recipes?
A. Mostly… I just make ‘em up as I go along. Remember, Pinterest is your friend! Facebook Instant Pot Community Groups can be great!
Q. Where do I purchase one?
A. I have a 6-quart, purchased from Amazon. You can get one like it: Instant Pot DUO60 6 Qt 7-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Sauté, Yogurt Maker and Warmer from Amazon.
