If I could pick one party snack for the rest of my life, it would probably be chips and dip. Specifically, Wavy Lays and Kroger brand chip dip. (If you’ve tried it, you understand. You’re my people.)
There’s also another dip that I love. Years ago, I was addicted to one of those prepackaged southwest shaker-dip mixes that you throw together at home. One day… (dun, dun, dunnn) I ran out. What would I do? Where would I find it again? Mid-panic, I flipped it over. As I scanned the list of spices, I realized… I owned every single one. (Big exhale.)
With Greek yogurt, light mayo, and a few spices from your pantry, you’re going to amaze yourself with this flavorful D-I-P. I’m a terrible measurer (yes, that’s a word), but I made myself pull out the measuring spoons just for you. But don’t let my recipe hold you back. You. Do. You. I change this up alllll the time depending on who will be partaking. At the end of the day, I will always go spicier. I {heart} red pepper flakes. For this recipe, I started off mild.
Mix together your mayo and Greek yogurt (or light sour cream). No matter the size batch you make, just remember it’s always a 1:2 ratio for mayo : Greek yogurt.
I took the conservative route to start. Add in your garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, season salt, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper and Tony Cachere’s Cajun Seasoning (if you don’t have this last one, it’s ok. Get some at the store next time. You may just want to kick up your flavor in other areas until then). Keep those spices handy – you’re gonna want to tweak it to your taste at the end.
Mix it up, grab a chip (if you’re a true chip lover, your bag is already open), and give it a dip. This is where you add more of whatever you like. I always go for more cajun seasoning and/or red pepper flakes – but be careful. Once this dip sits in the fridge for a bit, those spices really meld together. Top with parsley flakes (because it’s pretty) and serve!
Wasn’t that easy?!? Now, get to dippin’!
- 1 cup light mayonnaise (I use Hellman's Light)
- 2 cups (heaping) plain Greek yogurt (or light sour cream)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ⅛ tsp season salt
- ⅛ tsp chili powder
- ¼ tsp Tony Cachere's Cajun Seasoning (this isn't necessary if you don't have it, but I think it adds a little extra spice
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
- salt
- pepper
- Mix Greek yogurt and mayonnaise until well-combined.
- Add spices and stir well.
- Give it a taste test. If you want it spicier, add a little more Cajun seasoning until you get to the spice you want. (TIP: Don't get too heavy handed with the red pepper flakes - once this dip sits in the fridge, it absorbs the spice of the peppers.)
Potato chips and a yummy dip…Sounds so good!
It is so good. Because it’s made with Greek yogurt, I always feel less guilty! 🙂 And we always add extra spice!
